Don’t Bottle Your Unpleasant Emotions

Do You Shove Your Unpleasant Emotions Down?

As hard as it may be at times, we have to allow ourselves to feel unpleasant feelings. In my past, I used to shove things down. The more hardships I went through, the more I buried my feelings. For a short period of time, it would make me feel better. The problem is the fact that something doesn’t disappear just because we shove it way down inside of ourselves. It’s like a bottle of soda… You can shake it and nothing will happen. However, as soon as the lid is opened, it’s sure to explode. Our emotions are very similar. Shoving them down is like shaking the bottle. Eventually, something is going to loosen our lid and it’s all going to come spilling out. Learning how to deal with unpleasant emotions in a positive way can be challenging. However, the trouble and stress you will save yourself makes it more than worth it. Acknowledge your emotions, give yourself the attention you need, and never try and lie to yourself about how you feel.
